Chiropractic care is the hands on healing art that deals with spinal correction and restoration. “Chiro” means “hand” and “practic” means practice.
We discover, identify or diagnose problems and know how to improve or correct those problems. This is the definition of what a chiropractor does. It is simply helping the body function like it is designed to. Our goal is getting the structure in better shape and alignment.
Pain is a common presentation in chiropractic clinics. The absence or presence of pain is a poor indicator of true health and wellness. We assess your spine to find underlying conditions that may or may not be causing pain.
The spine houses your spinal cord and all the pairs of spinal nerves which come out to supply every tissue, gland and organ of your body in order to coordinate the function with the rest of the body to the brain. When there are problems with the spine or spinal nerves then there is a problem with that transmission of information which can lead to systemic problems, acid/alkaline imbalance, digestive or other endocrine problems as well as your basic joint pain/stiffness that most people associate with chiropractic.
Why should I see a chiropractor?
Let’s use a dental analogy. When do you start seeing a dentist? When you have a toothache or serious problem in your mouth? Or do you have a checkup to see if your teeth are healthy and in good shape? Unfortunately most people know a lot more about managing the health of their teeth than they do their spine.
Most people come to see a chiropractor when they have a calamity, they have pain or they’ve hurt themselves. They notice a chronic, increasing problem and they reach a threshold of pain that is too much. That is when most people seek out a chiropractor, to start to unwind the problem.
After they get through the chronic pain people often want to stay well. This is where maintenance and supportive care comes in. It keeps health at a high level or high base line when regular care is pursued.
You don’t have to be in pain to benefit from chiropractic care just like you don’t go to the dentist when your teeth start falling out!
