From a personal history of back injury in high school football and eventual chiropractic care, Dr. Houk was inspired to become a chiropractor.
His mission is to help people with spine problems like himself. Without drugs, without surgery, he aims to heal the spine to function like it is designed to.
At Chiropractic college, he found a passion for the sciences of anatomy and physiology, learning how the body works, how it is designed and functions and how the body relates and inter-relates.
Understanding how the body works, then identifying and correcting problems, without drugs or surgery, is the energy that drives Dr. Houk to inspire his staff to high goals.
Our offices are staffed with professionals that have a similar passion to help and serve people in need. Houk Chiropractic & Massage Therapy has grown to be a multi-provider practice with multiple chiropractors and massage therapists in 2 office locations.
What makes Houk Chiropractic & Massage Therapy a good choice?
The level of our professional service sets us apart from others. Our engagement with patients allows us to examine and discover at a deep level. Dr Henning joined us 25 years ago and since, we’ve had a like minded quest for the best service, results and outcomes for people.
One of our greatest strengths at Houk Chiropractic is our integrated team approach to care. We consult, collaborate, ask questions and get feed back all day long. Where individuals may have blind spots, as a group, we are very thorough.
Unique chiropractic equipment is used at all our clinics. We use tables that have motorized flexion/distraction to decompress the spine as we are assessing and working with the spine. This makes it easier to palpate and adjust problems. We use primarily manual adjustment techniques, adding instruments for adjusting when the case dictates the best course of action. We also have digital x-ray imaging at all of our clinics. At the Monroe Street clinic we a have a digital motion x-ray which is the only unit of this kind in the Inland Northwest. It creates 30 frames per second of the spine in motion for whiplash and spinal trauma cases. We use the digital motion x-ray for auto accidents and spine trauma cases so we can see which ligaments have failed in a trauma injury of the neck or cervical spine. We can see what structures have failed with motion testing.
We lead the cutting edge with clinical massage therapy. Clinical massage means our massage therapists practice condition based treatment that has goals and outcomes for our patients that dovetails with our chiropractic treatments. Our chiropractors will often prescribe or refer patients to the massage therapists with instructions. The massage therapist and chiropractor will collaborate on the care, response, goals and progression of results.
Many people have a tandem problem with therelationship. When chiropractors work with spinal joints and extremity joints we find that there is a chronic muscle imbalance also. We have found the healing progress is faster with lengthening of the soft tissue fibers through massage therapy. We use transfriction massage, stretching, lengthening and balancing of the musculature to addresses the whole neuro musculoskeletal package including joints, disks and nerves.
Combining chiropractic care and massage therapy is the optimal tandem therapy for treating most musculoskeletal problems and the approach we take at Houk Chiropractic & Massage Therapy.
